"Chancellor announces £300m funding for ‘Northern Powerhouse’ rail projects"
The Institution of Mechanical Engineers has today reported that "rail infrastructure in the north of England will get a £300m investment, as part of government plans announced by the Chancellor Philip Hammond in a speech at the Conservative Party conference.
The money will be used to link HS2 – a high-speed rail line running from London to Birmingham – up with faster services between Liverpool, Manchester, Sheffield, Leeds and York."
