Brexit: The case for Infrastructure
"Brexit The case for Infrastructure" is an interesting brief report written by the Institute of Civil Engineers. It cites that 59% of the financing of Infrastructure projects is from the Private Sector (worth £251 Billion) and makes the argument that it is "vital that the government increases confidence for private investors".
In summary the ICE recommends the following actions:
- "Continue to place infrastructure investment at the heart of economic policy"
- "Continue to invest in long term infrastructure programmes"
At Critical Project Resourcing we have been recruiting within the Infrastructure sector for over 12 years, broadly speaking these sectors are under resourced and underskilled resulting in drawing talent from across Europe and the World. Our clients have been investing in the next generation of Engineers and need the confidence to keep investing in the development of School and University leavers into engineering.
Funding pauses in recent history can be traced through the chronology of candidates cv's and their promotions. Any funding pauses or lack of confidence will create skill shortages further down the line as companies pull back on investing in new talent.
We are experiencing a shortage of technical leaders in engineering now caused by the 1990 - 1994 recession and there is a shortage of qualified engineers caused by the 2008 - 2012 downturn that will take years to ripple through. If we are not careful there will be three waves of shortages rippling through the market at the same time.
