I need a new job - where to start?!

When deciding to make a career change, or return to work, it can be daunting to know where to start. 

The amount of jobs boards, advertising sites and recruitment companies can be a bit overwhelming. 

The key to getting results is to know what you want.  Sounds obvious, but often it can be difficult to figure out what you want to do. 

Ensure you have the basics figured out - up to date CV, location you are looking for and sector you want to move to. 

If you’re flexible on some of these points (sector and location), you would benefit from uploading your CV to a variety of job boards to ensure maximum coverage. 

If the position you are after is a bit more specific, it’s worth considering a few specialist recruiters to ensure your CV isn’t sent multiple times to the same positions. 

Make the most of free networking sites such as Linkedin www.linkedin.com. 

Ensure you keep all your online profiles up to date, if you registered 6 months ago, there may be significant changes to your skill set that needs updating. 

Many of the big job boards have lots of resources offering career advice, for example, Total Jobs Career Advice. 

If you are thinking of a change, now is a good time to look with the BBC recently reporting “latest estimates suggesting that all industries have at least as many jobs on offer now as before the onset of Covid-19." UK job vacancies reach 20-year high - BBC News
